Rayshard Brooks
Rayshard Brooks, a 27 year old black man was killed by police on June 12th 2020.
He was sleeping in his own car at a Wendy's parking lot when police asked him to move his car.
Rayshard was too drunk to drive as he said the police, and so asked if he could walk to his sister's house, that was a short distance away. One of the officer's body camera shows that he was friendly, cooperative and calm.
Officer Rolfe then handcuffed him, and Rayshard, confused and drunk, tried to break free while the officers were scuffling him to the ground. He managed to run away.
Rolfe, after some time, drew his handgun and shot three times: once in his mid-back, once the lower back and once to a close vehicule almost shooting three passengers. After shooting Brooks, rolfe said: "I got him". They kicked him and the other officer, Brosnan, stood on his shoulders.
Seven minutes after Rayshard was shot, an abulance arrived and took him to a hospital. He died following surgery.
Both officers were removed from duty, and soon after put on administrative duty. Then, on June 17th, many charges were put against Rolfe, including felony murder, aggravated assault, four police oath violations and damage to property. Brosnan had charges fo aggravated assault and two violations of oath.
Brosnan was released on June 18th.
Rolfe was released on July 1st with condiditons.
