Ways to help the movement

If you have no money to donate to organisations, here are some things you can do instead:

1. Sign petitions

This is the most evident but the most helpful ways you can help bring justice to black people killed/injured. There are many on this site, but you can search some online, and sign them! There are a lot on change.org and colorofchange.org, and don't forget to share! Sharing a petition helps a lot too.

2. Text and call numbers for justice

Here are a few numbers to text:

~text FLOYD in all caps to 55-156
~text JUSTICE in all caps to 66-8336
~text ENOUGH in all caps to 55-165

Here are numbers to call/leave a message:

~call 612-438-5550 and demand prosecution to Tou Thao (badge 7162) and Derek Chauvin (badge 1087)
~leave a message for the Louisville mayor demanding justice for Breonna Taylor at 502-574-2003)

3. Educate yourself

Educating yourself helps the realisation that racism is everywhere and needs to stop. Here are some books recommended by @feminist on instagram:

~Black feminist though, Patricia Hill Collins
~Me and white supremacy, Layla F. Saad
~Heavy: an American Memoir, Kiese Laymon
~I know why the caged bird sings, Maya Angelou
~White fragility: why it's so difficult for white people to talk about racism, Robin Dianglo
~Between the world and me, Ta-Nehisi Coates

There are also some movies I recommend:

~The hate U give
~13th (netflix)
~Dear white people (netflix)
~Clemency
~Little Fires Everywhere (hulu)
~Black is King (disney+)

4. Who to follow on Instagram:

-@blklivesmatter
-@colorofchange
-@naacp
-@showingupforracialjustice
-@mvmnt4blklives
-@yourrightscamp
-@chnge

5. Ask yourself these questions:

-what does it mean to be anti-racit?
-what can I do to support even more?
-what are politicians doing to stop police brutality and hate?
-when was I taught about race and culture?
--what is white supremacy?
-do I support ALL black lives? (lgbtq+ black lives/trans black lives...)
-as a white person, do I acknowledge my privilege and use it for good?

6. Show up at your local protests!

If you do go to a protest and live in the US, I have some tips for you:

-use swimming googles for protection against rubber bullets and tear gas
-wear a mask for protection against tear gas
-use dark/monochrome clothing so you aren't recognised
-do NOT riot or destroy! This is what the media wants to have in image!
-if you don't want to participate much because of the risks, you can show up and give bottled water and snacks to protesters :)

7.If you have some money, you can also donate

Here are some organisations to donate to:

-Black lives matter
-Bail project
-justice for Breonna
-Campaign zero
-Run with Maud
-Anti Police Terror project
-Reclaim the block

PLEASE do NOT donate direcly on change.org! They keep the majority of the profits to themselves!

You can also contact me via Instagram (heloise_ymn) if you know more stories of black people whose story has to be heard and I did not already share it on this site!
