Breonna Taylor
Breonna taylor was 26 years old medical technician who was fatally shot by the Lousiville police on March 13th, 2020.
It was shortly after midnight when 3 police officers entered Breonna and her boyfriend's appartment. They force opened the door with a battering ram. The police was investigating two men selling drugs, and Breonna's appartment was supposedly where they would hide the drugs and receive packages. They did a search through the appartment, but no drugs were found.
The police said they announced themselves and knocked several times, but neighbors stated that they heard no announcement and only a dispute, that made Kenneth Walker, Breonna's boyfriend, act in self-defence thinking someone was trying to break in. When the door was door, Walker attacked an officer blindly to the leg. The other officers then opened fire and shot randomly across the apartment: The kitchen, the hallway, the bathroom, living room and both bedrooms. Breonna was shot at least eight times and declared dead at the scene.
The police then filled a pratically blank incident report, that said Breonna was not injured, even though she had gunshot wounds. It also said that there was no forced entry, even though they used a battering ram.
Walker inicially faced criminal charges of 1st degree assault and an attempt to kill a policeman, but released from jail because of covid-19 issues. In late May, all charges against Kenneth were dismissed.
All police officers involved were placed under administrative reassignment. The FBI is leading its own investigation.
Early June, Brett Hankinson, one of the police officers involved, was removed from the Louisville Police Merit Board, and then fired four days later. Hankinson is also investigated for sexual assault, and two allegations were posted on Facebook during June about this matter: Morgan Miller and Margo Borders. Another allegation by Emily Terry also resurfaced on Instagram. She said: "Not all cops are bad, but this one is".
The Council later passed Breonna's law, banning knock warrants.
None of the other cops were arrested or fired, and we need justice for this woman.
